In December 2004, the Andaman Islands were hit by an earthquake and the ensuing tsunami. Even at the beginning of 2007, almost half of the locals lived in makeshift shelters built from tin sheets.

ADRA is therefore trying to improve livelihood, hygiene and health care of these people who are forced to live on an uncomfortable conditions. The main target is to ensure sufficient access to water sources and elementary health care.
